Alexa King I took in the mare's movements, watching her with a practical eye as always when it came to horses in doing their work. I knew that the mare was well trained and that made me very pleased. Then I turned Prince into the ring and nudged him in an almost invisible way. The stallion neighed and in complete care, broke into a trot, easily shifting into a canter and finally into that smooth gallop he'd always had.
We reached them at the other end and I walked him in a tight circle for a moment before moving him over to them. "She moves well."

He nodded in agreement, smoothing her soft neck with a hand. "Just like her mother," he said quietly, remembering his mother's mare fondly. "Looks just like her as well," he said and jumped from her back and looping the reins over his arm, leading her to the end of the arena. "Jumps?" he asked, dropping the reins and she stood still, though her eyes followed him, as he dragged the jumps out a fair way. Lasair could jump, he knew that much, but how well? He guessed not as good as Prince, but she was a few years younger.

Alexa King I slipped out of my own saddle, watching Prince for a second, just to check the mare was not in heat. She did not appear to be which was good. Then I walked over towards him to give him a hand. I was used to working with this sort of thing, so the weight was nothing. "They left a lot fo stuff here," I said, looking at some of the other things out the back. I smiled though, easily lifting one of the cavelletti poles, moving it out into the ring area and setting it in the jumps. "Make some of them big." I smiled though. "This place is almost as big as the arena I was showjumping in in China." And it was, but a tad smaller.

He nodded his thanks as she moved to help him, setting a few smaller ones and a few highers ones as well as some massive ones just for Prince. They both knew they he loved to jump almost as much as Alexa did herself. "Let's see how they go eh?" he asked, swinging back into Lasair's saddle with ease and pushing the mare forwards without a single movement. He was a neat rider, good enough for the games he had once been told. But he had never tried for it, never wanting to go that fair. But, no one understood nor knew the reasons behind it. He sighed at the thought, knowing he would have to explain to Alexa someday soon.
The mare's black ear flickered at the sound of his sigh and watched the brightly coloured jumps with intrest, not at all seeming annoyed by the sight of them. "You first," he said waving them forewards, watching the mare carefully.

Alexa King I smiled and nudged my horse forwards. "Don't worry, she's not in heat, Kayson, else I'd know already." For a couple of seconds i just had him moving under me, before I really nudged him forwards into that quick gallop that covered every jump we ever faced.
Prince leapt over the first few without drama before there was a huge crash of thunder and he reared, dumping me on the sand before bolting.
I rolled onto my feet, not hurt but definately sure to have a bruise or two now. I looked where Prince had gone but he was already coming back, head low to the ground, obviously embarrassed to find me not on his back. I sighed, catching his reins, and jumping back up onto him. "Ouch," i winced as a bruise on my butt reacted.

"I know, but I want her calm...though she already is," he said slowly, rubbing the mares neck. He watched her, admiring the speed and grace the two used. Lasair stood firm at the thunder, barely seeming to notice it but as soon as Alexa fell, he pushed her quickly forwards to make sure she was okay. "You okay love?" he asked, worry flooding though him as he halted beside Prince. Lasair blew her nose in greeting, rubbing her head against Prince's in affection and Kayson watched her in amusement. It was the first time, he noticed, that she had done something without command.

Alexa King "A few bruises but nothing else, Kayson. I'm fine." I smiled at him a little shaken. Then I patted Prince's neck. "Dunno what got into him though. Seven years old and never spooked at a mere thunder clap before."
I sighed, looking at the horse. Then I slipped down, having noticed that he was favoring one foot. Giving him the usual command to lift the foot, he did so and I looked at his hoof.
"No wonder he's favouring it. The shoe's loose."

He jumped down from saddle, leaving Lasair where she was and nodded at the nail. "Want me to fix it?" he asked, having done a farriers course a year or so back. "If not..we'll get the farrier around tomorrow," he said with a grin and looked at the jumps once more. "I'm going to see how Lasair goes and then we'll head back inside shall we?" he asked jumping back into the soft saddle and turning the mare gently. His hands were soft at her mouth, never pulling nor jerking. "Let's see how good you really are girly," he said and lined her up before pushing her into a gallop. Her start to gallop tranisition was perfect and easy, he felt her muscle bunch and they sailed over the first jump with room to spare.
He took the smallest ones easily, easily enough room to jump the higher ones and decided to take next one up. They moved as one, light signals their only messenger as he sent her over all but the very biggest. He halted her, barely sweating, not wanting to push her to far by going over the biggest but the mare looked at them, ears foreward. "You want to give them a go eh?" he asked "maybe tomorrow."

Alexa King "That might help if you can," i replied. "Since when do you know how?" I smiled though, staying on foot, and not on him. I did not want to lame my boy.
Watching them I smiled as i saw the mare soar over them easily. When they came back i smiled at him. "She goes well over them. Almost as good as Prince, though I would have loved to try those big ones."

Kayson headed back towards her, nodding and grinning ear to ear. "That she is, I just didn't want to push her for she had a long drive today..I might try her out tomorrow on some bigger ones as the smaller ones seemed a little to easy," he said with a firm pat on the mares neck before jumping down and letting her breath. "I did a course a year or so ago, no real reason other then I wanted to," he shrugged and lent into the stallion, getting a raised hoof in return. "He answers well with his feet," he commented, bending over to look at the shoe. "Hmm," he said pulling at the single loose nail and put the foot back down with a pat on his shoulder. "Just needs a new nail, should hold for a few months at least," h smiled and gestured to the stables. "Back in a second."
A few moments later he returned, farriers belt and box in hand. He put the box down, sliding it open and pulling out a small tool before lifting the hoof once more, pulling the nail out. He had learnt, long ago, that horses could not feel there hooves unless it was the frog or something that was hit.
Nail removed, he pulled another tool from the container and a nail which he held between his teeth setting the shoe in place, meanwhile holding the well muscled leg between his legs. "Good boy Prince," he murmered, taking the nail from his teeth and setting it into the shoe. With a few short, yet gentle, bangs the shoe was attached once more.
Giving Prince back his leg gently, he patted the smooth shoulder and flashed Alexa a smile. "Simple," he said and rolled his shoulder, shoeing horses for one thing did kill you back.
"Lets rub them down and head back inside? These two need their beautiful sleep," he said with a grin.

Alexa King I smiled as i watched him for a few more minutes, listening to what he said. I did not say too much really, seeing as I did not really know what to say. I guess he had the time and the money to use as he willed. Unlike me who was living off the competitions and part time job at Sally's stables.
I watched though as he came back, and dealed with my horse's loose shoe. "Yeah, he's been well trained. I outght to know, seeing as I was the one who has trained him. Sally herself did notthing with him and she never got anyone else in."

He flashed a smile, arm looped though Lasair's reins and nodded once more at the stables. "Come on guys," he said to the mare and stag "time to have some beauty sleep." Lasair, despite Kayson leading her on the left, insisted on walking beside the stallion. Her soft nose kept pressing into his shoulder, or her tail flicking against his rump. He chuckled, wondering how such a well mannered horse would not listen to something as simple as this but he gave in. "Odd," he mused aloud.

Alexa King I chuckled as we walked. "Who knows what's going on back there in their heads. No oen really knows how these guys truly think do we?" I smiled though as I thought about the good young champion behind me. He'd come so far and i had helped him to do so. "You know the competitions never going to end for me, seeing as I'll only be breeding him with mare's up to his standard, right?"

Kayson nodded. "He will be the center of our breeding farm," he grinned and wrapped a warm arm around her shoulders. "As will Miss Idi and Lasair," he grinned, knowing that the two mares were good enough to carry Prince's foals.
They entered the stables, Kayson leading the tall mare into her stall and rubbing her lightly sweating coat. "There you go, good girl," he said, rubbing the last of the sweat and sand off. "You'll get a bath when it's warmer, promise," he told her quietly, cleaning out her hooves and stepped back to admire his handy work before pulling on her thick rug and heading for Alexa and Prince's stall. "Almost done?" he asked, leaning on the door.

Alexa King I smiled as he came and asked me whether I was done or not. "I may have a finer eye for detail than you do, but I get the job done. I'm done."
I laughed though, slipping out of the stall and wrapping my arms around him. "Better get up to the house before the rain comes down again."
I smiled though knowing that a little rain would not hurt me. "I think those two dont have to earn it when it comes to breeding. I've seen enough to know they are worth it already."
