James "Sawyer" Baker
His eyes looked around the beach, remincising about nights past. There wasn't much else to do here except go to work and go to the beach. His brother was still whining about the move; whining how there wasn't any street races around here. It was all James could do short of locking him in a closet to bring him to the middle of no where. It was hard being the older brother when your parents were dead. It wasn't that his brother was incompetent, just a little thick skulled. He wanted to do things his own way, while the world already had its presets. Sawyer shook his head, there was no point in wasting his beach day thinking about his brother. He didn't have a surfboard, nor did he ever want one. Those things looked dangerous. No, he was quite conent stretched out on the beach getting a tan with a pretty girl. Only problem was, he didn't have a pretty girl to lie with.

Saida Meadows There were not many good waves at the moment and that was something that annoyed me at times. I'd come out here to surf, the weather guy last night had said there would be a few good waves.
Yet the ocean was annoyingly flat. That was something I hated happening.
I heard someone walking along the beach. Not that I was worried about that. I'd come down here for a short surf and then to sleep on the beach for a while but that was about all. I'd be off home before I knew it, I did not want to get sunburnt.
Mom had told me a lot about the risks of too much sun and yet she was the one who'd get burnt more easily than me. I was still very careful.
Lying on my surfboard, I found a good wave to use and started paddling. As it picked up my board I stood up, easily used to the rather flat wave. Sadly I did not get much out of it before it dunked me. I quickly swam towards the surface, relieved when my head broke the surface of the water.
I clambered back onto my board and paddled back into shore, walking towards where my towel was. As I walked, I shifted my long virbrant red hair out of the way of my almost pretty green eyes.

Sawyer
He put his sunglasses on so he could watch the babes out on the beach walking around. Most of them were with their honies, but there were a few that were alone. One in particular caught his eye, A stunning red head walking ashore from the surf. He scoffed slightly, not used to seeing girls any good at surfing-well, not really anyone good at surfing. She was strikingly beautiful though, and he knew he had to at least know her name. She was walking to the set up next to him, and so he rolled over and looked over her again, not taking his sunglasses off just yet. He had to assess her first, realize what type of girl she was. Figuring she wouldn't be one of the tough girls, he smiled. He spoke as he removed his sunglasses. "Nice board."

I sighed picking up the towel that was on the ground and drying off quickly. Then someone spoke and I looked over at them. They were lying down near my own things. "Thanks. I'm Saida Meadows, and you are?" Was not often I got a guys attention like that... While I waited for his responce I pulled on my shorts and t-shirt, not really caring for the clothes as they gor wet from my swimmers. I smiled though. "I'm not a common sight here, though I doubt I've seen you in town before."

He smiled, taking the moment to look her over again. He wasn't exactly one of those guys that just picked up pretty girls, but he was the type that was self concious about the girls he surrounded himself with. He had a reputation to upkeep on base, considering his father's past. His father had been a player, and everyone thought Sawyer was the same. "Names James, but everyone calls me Sawyer." He grinned, not even remembering the origin of the nickname. Maybe it resorted back to the old tales of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, as Tom had always been the bad influence on his brother when they were younger. What would you know, now he's the one bailing him out of trouble. "You probably haven't, I spend most of my time on base."

I chuckled at that. "Be a bit hard for you coming out here where theres no one you really know, Sawyer," I replied, using his other more commonly used name. I knew that t would be hard for him. "harder than things are for me. I would not have guessed you were a soldier. You don't really look like the other ones that I've seen from time to time out here in town."

He couldn't help but laugh at her comment, and he smiled, patting the sand next to him trying to get her to sit down with him. "What, I still keep my pretty face?" He laughed again, looking her over once more. She was certainly a beautiful girl, even if the look in her eyes says she didn't believe it. "I tore my ACL back when I first joined and didn't go to the medic until it got to the point where I couldn't get out of bed. They keep me out of doing any of the heavy artillery."

“That was a foolish thing for you to do.” I smiled though, taking the sting out of the sharp tone I had responded to that last comment with. He was foolish acting that way. No one really knew me, and I liked it that way at times. “I've got a brother in the army at the moment. My dad's there too. Ever met a General Onvyr Meadows?” I'd heard about all the guys over there at the moment, dad always had stories to tell. I chuckled though, sitting down.

He smiled, a look of concentration crossing his face as he thought on her question. He hadn't really met anyone on this base though, so it wasn't easy to pinpoint a specific name. "I just convinced them to move me here so I could be close to my little brother. I haven't actually met anyone on base yet, I'm due in tomorrow." He smiled though, at least the girl knew what being an army brat was all about. She knew the ups and downs of combat. He thought back to what she said about being irresponsible about his leg. "I knew it was an injury that would take me out of the fighting. I thought it would get better with time and frankly I liked my gun, call it compensation, but it was a nice gun! They took it away when they sent me home."

I chuckled. "You'll likely meet him tomorrow then. Its not often theres a new face. He usually handles any transfers coming in from another base. My dad's pretty freindly just don't piss him off because he will make your life hell." I chuckled though. He rarely reacted in such a manner to a situation.
"I doubt you'll ahve to worry about that though. He's pretty easy going. I've met a lot of guys at that base, they used to come aroudn for dinner on the odd occassion. A lot of nice guys over there. Young though." I smiled at the memories.

He smiled toward her, though questions ran through his mind. If her dad was going to be his commander, there was no way he could be caught with the man's daughter. It would provoke questions that her father wouldn't want to answer. He gulped, rolling over on his back and staring up at the sky. At least he had warning of what his commander was going to be like-that was a plus, even if the prettiest girl in town was untouchable because she was said commander's daughter. His mind reeled as he thought over her words. "Bet none of the guys are as hot as me!"

This guy was kind of cute to me. He was likely worried though that I was off limits to him seeing as my father was his commander. That was not true.
"You know, my father really does not care what the guys do that are under him when it comes to things that are not on the base. So if you're thinking I am off-limits to you, you're wrong."
I smiled though, thinking how to talk about that one. I knew there was something about him that I could not really put my finger on.
"Some of them would rival you there, but their all taken. Ones married the others engaged."

He couldn't help but laugh, slightly relieved by her statement. The forbidden fruit... He wasn't one to comply to company rules and all, if the girl said it was okay, then he'd believe her. He just couldn't let it spill to daddy when he went to work tomorrow if he got her drunk and pregnant like his father supposedly did back in his heyday. Nonetheless, he couldn't help but smile. "Well hey, if daddy's not gonna get made at me then come a little closer, sugar. I'm as free as a bird unless you want to clip my wings and keep me for yourself."

I laughed, knowing that some guys did not know when to be careful what they said. He seemed to be one of them but I did not really care about that. I smiled though, shifting a little closer to him. "I don't like being cheated on..."
I hoped he understood that. That was something I really did not like, and I was sure that my utter dislike for it showed in my voice.

He bulked at her statement, not because he would cheat on her but because she thought he would. It hurt him to think he came off as the type that did, but it seemed like he'd have to redeem himself in her eyes for whatever he did do. "I don't cheat. My dad might have gotten drunk one time and woke up next to a woman he didn't remember, but I don't. I've been cheated on before, in my own bed." He seemed to turn a bit rigid and he just stared off into the ocean, watching the seagulls trying to bum food off people. Did he really come off as that type of guy?
