The Plot
You are travelling through the woods when you happen along a woman with a huge creature beside her that can only be a dragon. She smiled and offers you a seat which you accept being tired.
“Let me tell you my tale,” the old woman says.
You agree and she begins.
“The sands of time cannot be stopped. Years pass whether we will them or not ... but we can remember. What has been lost may yet live on in memories. That which you will hear is imperfect and fragmented, yet treasure it, for without you it does not exist. I give you now a memory that has been forgotten, hidden in the dreamy haze that lies behind us.
Before your grandfathers’ fathers were born, and yea, even before their fathers, the Dragon Riders were formed. To protect and serve was their mission, and for thousands of year the people prospered. Their prowess in battle was unmatched, for each had the strength of ten men. They were immortal unless blade or poison took them. For good only were their powers used, and under their tutelage tall cities and towers were built out of the living stone. While they kept peace, the land flourished. It was a golden time. The elves were our allies, the dwarves our friends. Wealth flowed into our cities, and men prospered. But weep ... for it could not last.
Though no enemy could destroy them, they could not guard against themselves.”
She pauses to look at you, as does her dragon. This is when the dragon speaks. You find it rather weird that he is speaking directly into your head.
“You yourself upon entering this world have been chosen as a rider for one of our mighty dragons, though they are yet to hatch. Alliances with other riders may be the key to seeing you live on for a long time my young friend. We are the hidden, the last of that golden age which my rider tells you of. Because of this, we send you back in time, to a time when were the Riders of old flourished and peace reigned. You will undergo the training and be bonded with one of my kin. A time will come when one of the young riders revolts against the the leaders. Be wise when that happens for only the right decisions will lead to your survival in Alagaesia.”
With a start you realise that the dragon and his rider are gone and you are standing in a clearing, on a hill overlooking a city. Thinking that there must be some mistake and this is definitely no world you are familiar with, except through books, you head down there, realising that you are in the Spine and that city is Narda.
Where will this adventure lead? Only time will tell...
